Too . . . much . . . eating

Well, I'm feeling like a bloated tick today.

Thanksgiving feast at Mom's was good. No Filipino food this year (other than Lecheplan for dessert), just a lot of Turkey, stuffing and the usual offenders. I also had 3 glasses of Sangria, so with the turkey . . . I was ready to pass out after eating!

At work, because whenever the stock market is open, I have to be at work. :shrugs:

So to kill time, meme from [info]firelilycosplay:

under here because of length )
eeyore!!
Kinda slow here at work. For some reason I got to thinking about Christmas-themed commercials. Luckily the ones I that really stuck with me when I was younger are uploaded on Youtube . . .

While that says 1976, they played that year after year, well into the late 80s. JERSEY REPRESENT! (if you didn't know, Toys R Us is an NJ based corporation.)

Sadly Lionel Kiddie City ain't around no mo'. There was one store near where I used to live in Burlington, NJ. It was a huge store. Supermarket sized; easily bigger than any Toys R Us I have seen before then or since. I had many joygasms going through that place (especially since the video game section was right where you walked through the entrance.)

When that played in my area, it was for Kiddie City, not Playworld of course!

And who doesn't love the Coca Cola polar bears (along with the seal)?

I better go work now!

I need a Beta Ray Bill icon . . .

Well, like I said before, I was wondering who they were going to get to play Heimdall in the upcoming Thor movie. It's been announced, but kinda perplexing . . .

Idris Elba to Play Heimdall

A Black man to play a Norse God? :shrugs:

Not to mention, Heimdall is Sif's brother and Jaimie Alexander is cast as her. My guess is, they're just tossing that familial relationship by the wayside. Unless they work in some storyline that one of their parents was an Egyptian God or something XD XD XD

And for even more perplexing movie news . . .

An American Gladiators Movie?!?!?!?

I mean really? What?

I want to get a digital camcorder

Only thing is, I want a camcorder that can do a bit more than what current camcorders can do. Namely, record from analog sources. Meaning, I want to be able to connect a VCR or cable box to it and be able to record onto it.

I don't believe this functionality is available on memory card, hard disk or even DVD based camcorders anymore. If I am mistaken, please let me know.

Otherwise, I'll have to track down a used MiniDV or Digital8 camcorder as many of those models (not any of the new ones, since they're now bare bones models and they're being phased out) have that functionality.

Of course, one of these would be pretty cool to have as well!

Poveglia Island

Was skimming through the channels just now when I happened upon the show Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel. Never watched this show before, and I watched Ghost Hunters--the show GA is obviously copying--only a few times. But what caught my attention was where they were doing a study on . . . Poveglia Island.

I first read about this island on a Cracked.com list . . .

6 Real Islands Way More Terrifying Than The One On 'Lost'

. . . Poveglia Island is #5.

As you can read from that Cracked list, thanks to its history, Poveglia Island is one place would be ripe for being haunted. The Italian Government declared it off limits. Maybe because it's a place that doesn't show the rosiest side of the country's history. Maybe also, because you might get driven insane by ghosts or possessed or something like that.

Needless to say, a lot of creepy shit happened in that episode; lots of disembodied voices, some moaning, some screaming, a possible possession, shit knocked over and loud noises. Not much visual evidence (there were some orbs and some mists), but enough other evidence to make me not want to ever be within in nautical mile of that place.

Clash of the Titans - Teaser Trailer

Well, Ray Harryhausen it ain't, but still looks pretty cool. Definitely looking forward to this despite my disliking for remakes. I'm guessing Warner Bros. is hoping this will be another 300 for them.

Oh yeah, and if you've never seen the original from 1981, here's the trailer for that:

Look pretty spiffy to me! Though the dialog is a bit infantile.

If it's not remakes . . .

. . . it's sequels to long dormant franchises when Hollywood runs out of ideas.

Though, this is definitely interesting:

Original Roger Rabbit Writers Working on Sequel.

I'm guessing a 20+ years older Bob Hoskins (Eddie) won't be involved.

In other news, oh Billy Zane what has happened to you? Before you were playing a deliciously evil demon in Demon Knight, doing a decent take on a classic comic strip hero in The Phantom and being the bad guy in the top grossing film of all time. But now, you're reduced to . . .

Journey to Promethia

Ah well . . . the man's gotta eat somehow!

The one award show no one is watching

  • Oct. 27th, 2009 at 11:05 PM
terror
So I found out the SpikeTV 2009 Scream Awards (for fantasy, sci-fi, horror and comic book related stuffs) were on tonight (after a mini-marathon of 1000 Ways to Die) and decided to watch. Nice to see at least some kind of awards show for horror movies since The Horror Hall of Fame went nowhere years ago.

Cool that George A. Romero got a kind of "lifetime achievement" award, and a nomination went to Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One in) for "Best Director" (he didn't win of course--award went to JJ Abrams.) They did show a deleted scene from JJ Abrams Star Trek (introduced by John Cho and Karl Urban) and had a tribute to Battlestar Galactica.

I am recording it, so I might get around to putting some clips up.

Mighty Mouse
Luc Besson plans to give us some Indiana Jones style adventure . . .
Les Aventures Extrodinaire d'Adele Blanc-Sec

The year is 1912. Adèle Blanc-Sec, an intrepid young reporter, will go to any lengths to achieve her aims, including sailing to Egypt to tackle mummies of all shapes and sizes.

Meanwhile, in Paris, it's panic stations! A 136 million-year old pterodactyl egg on a shelf in the natural history museum has mysteriously hatched, and the bird subjects the city to a reign of terror from the skies. But nothing fazes Adèle Blanc-Sec, whose adventures reveal many more extraordinary surprises...

Set in the carefree world before World War I, Adèle Blanc-Sec's adventures see the brave young woman fearlessly battling crooks, corrupt politicians, demon worshippers and mad scientists. Legendary cartoonist Jacques Tardi's original stories perfectly recreate the intrigue, romance and excitement of one of the most tumultuous periods in history.

Adapted and directed by Luc Besson (Arthur and the Minimoys, The Fifth Element, The Professional), Adèle's exhilarating, funny and fabulous adventures will be one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2010.
And judging from the poster here, we'll more than likely see costumes fromt this movie at upcoming DragonCons and such!

Still, I am looking forward to this movie! Maybe Besson can give us another epic adventure equal to or better than The Fifth Element!

In other news, Cast info for new Conan movie:
[ CONAN ] He's in his 20s to early 30s, Caucasian, powerfully built, broad-shouldered, sun browned skin lined with scars. Piercing blue eyes and square-cut black mane, tall. He is a savage killer that has matured into the refinement his father tried to teach him when he was young. Conan is very smart, almost inhumanly strong, and very cunning. His entire life, from the moment of his birth, has been shaped by violence. Being the last of his tribe and having to watch his father die a cruel death, he is determined avenge his peoples slaughter by killing all those who led the attack on the Cimmerians, including the all-powerful Khalar Singh. He is prepared to die in order to accomplish his goal. What Conan did not expect, was to find a reason to live
Hmmmm . . . no one really comes to mind for that these days. Maybe Silvio Simac? Heh, only thing I've ever seen him in was that horrible DOA movie, but he fits the part to me!

So who's gonna play Major Kusanagi?

First off

2 straight World Series appearances! When was the last time a National League team did that?

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a poser since I've never been a huge Phillies or Baseball fan in general, but Paul got me watching them prior to the Series last year. So I'm a quasi-fan, so to speak!

One thing that kind of made me all giddy about this was I heard on the radio a newer version of Phillies rev of McFadden and Whiteheads' "Ain't No Stopping Us Now"

I love that song, and so fitting for the situation.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find this newer version of the Phillies rev of the song, but I did find the 1980s rev of the Phillies' "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" (with references to then Phils' Manager Dallas Green and then opponent Kansas City XD )

Ahhhhh . . . memories!

Now for other memories, but a sad story to accompany them . . .

TLA Video on South Street Closes

Man, many memories of stopping through there in the 90s searching for anime and Hong Kong films when such videos were EXTREMELY hard to come by. It's too bad they couldn't survive in this era of Netflix and Redboxes.

Hopefully their other sites will stay open for some time.

Might try to make it out to the fire sale tomorrow.

I SPAM UR FRIENDS LIST!

Hey there!
New shark movie coming out . . .

The Reef

Hmmmmm, and here I thought that that movie was already made . . .

Open Water

Oh that's right; it's different because one takes place on a reef, while the other is in open water . . . how silly of me!

The critics have spoken!

Philadelphia Inquirer's Stephen Rea
A seriously funny send-up of '70s blaxploitation pictures, Michael Jai White and Scott Sanders' Black Dynamite is a multilayered spoof, but also an affectionate homage - and condensed cinema studies course - paying baadasssss tribute to a genre rife with pimps, pushers, foxy ladies, customized Cadillacs, and sky-blue sharkskin suits.

Entertainment Weekly's Owen Glieberman
Black Dynamite blends satire, nostalgia, and cinema deconstruction into a one-of-a-kind comedy high. A

Mtv's Kurt Loder
Director Scott Sanders wrote the script with White and fellow actor Byron Minns; they shot this thing in three weeks and they've really nailed it. There's no winking irony and no heavy-handed film-referencing. The movie's like a blaxploitation classic you somehow missed back in the day. Time to catch up.

So if you got this movie playin' near you and you ain't seein' it this weekend, you a jive-@$$sed sucka!

See the "RESTRICTED" (as in NSFW) trailer here (bottom vid):

That's the first released clip of Tales of an Ancient Empire . . . the sort-of sequel to the shlocky (but awesome!!!), The Sword and the Sorcerer. If you've never seen that, here's the trailer:

http://www.videodetective.com/titledetails.aspx?PublishedID=3337

I want a 3 bladed sword projectile too!

I hope they re-release that on DVD before the sequel comes out. The Anchor Bay DVD has long been out of print and fetches high prices on Ebay.
